The surface is covered on both sides with a tin (?) Glaze; which makes the scratched decor less clear on the front. The plate is decorated with a six-pointed star painted in dark blue. In letters JM and the dates 1883 and 1933 are painted in orange-brown; as well as the edge of the board.
