Soviet Kazakhstan -- Threshing Wheat Crops at the Stalin Collective Farm in the Taldy-Kurgan Region. - throughout Kazakhstan there are almost 7,000 collective farms and 363 machine and tractor stations. These stations lend out 24,000 tractors and 12,000 harvester combines as well as other agricultural machinery to the farms around. - much agriculture, however, is still carried on without much mechanical aid. Russia must import grain. Collective farming is a failure. March 24, 1948. (Photo by Pictorial Press).
