China; Shanghai; Hongkou district: Memorial plaque for famous Bradway Theatre; also known as Art Deco style Roy Roof Garden Restaurant; built 1928; favourite outdoor recreational spot of Jewish refugees during World War II; at historic Building 57 Huashan Road near Zhoushan Road (former Chusan Road); Chusan Road was the commercial artery of "Little Vienna" in Shanghai with houses build in 1910 with a veranda as a significant stylish element. Occupied by the Japanese; after 1937 Chusan Road became part of the Shanghai Ghetto; formally known as the Restricted Sector for Stateless Refugees; an area of approximately one square mile in the Hongkou district of Japanese-occupied Shanghai (the southern Hongkou and southwestern Yangpu districts of modern Shanghai).
