SUBMARINE TUNNEL "Soon we will travel under the Channel": the tunnel project; an important engineering work linking the road network between England and France; theorized since the early 1800s; was taken up and developed for the umpteenth time by the French architect Andr?Basdevant; who proposes a mixed tunnel (automotive and railway) that connects Abbott's Cliff near Dover and Sangatte; near Calais; obtaining the approval of the British government for the first time (see also FSNgilardi_75091.jpg). The work will be built many years later; with access to different points; and inaugurated in 1994. Article published in the Italian illustrated periodical of 1949
