Cuba; city of Santa Clara: detail of a relief at the Museum and Memorial Monument Commander Ernesto Che Guevara (Museo y Monumento Memorial Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara); The monument was built by architect Jorge Cao Campos according to the design of sculptor Jos?Delarra in six years and finished 1988. The inauguration was at 29th of December; 30 years after the battle of Santa Clara; on 29th of December; 1958. 18 fighters let by Ernesto Che Guevara got a train full with weapons and arms which made it possible to conquer Santa Clara and to end the Batista dictatorship. The bronze statue of Che Guevara is 6 m high. A relief aside shows scenes of his revolutionary life. There is as well a museum; designed by Blanca Hernandez Guivernau. As well there is the mausoleum. In 1997; the relics of Che Guevara were buried here after having been excavated in Bolivia; where Che Guevara was executed; in 1967.
