LATE GOTHIC IRON CLOCK
South Germany or Switzerland. Ca. 1600-20

Iron partly painted in colours. Stone and iron weights. Upright rectangular; tower-like case with lantern finial. On all side remains of colour painting. Landscape depictions; as well as on the front a winged hourglass on clouds. Pierced finishes with flowers; faces and mythical creatures. The bell carrier with stylised flowers. Large chapter ring with Roman numerals for the hours; beneath this an auxiliary dial also with Roman numerals for the quarter-hours. Day clock movement with weight drive; iron wheels; lever movement and verge escapement or Foliot. Hour chime on a bell with annular-toothed locking plate. Height ca. 44cm. Condition B. Amendments typical for its age.
