It was cut from the semi-precious stone chalcedony. Characteristic for the emperor are the long; parallel strands of hair above the forehead. The head is decorated with a laurel wreath. Originally; the portrait was probably more complete and was only later removed and smoothed along the edges. On the flat sanded backside there are two attachments of iron pins.
