They got their name from numerous specimens found in and around the lower Italian cities of Nola and Capua. Except for a reddish-brown throat between foot and body; the vessel is completely covered with shiny clay on the outside. The estuary and the upper part of the neck are varnished inside as well. The inner wall and the underside of the foot are left clayey.
