A HIGH AND SQUARE VASE.
Japan. 19th c.

Light-colored stoneware with thin; iron-red layer; covered with greenish; transparent; glossy ash glaze with crackle. A bit bulbous body; neck with rounded lip and the foot ring set off. Wall with vertical
grooves; the surfaces decorated with engraved parallel wavy lines. Partial areas covered
with black lacquer; possibly old repairs. At the lip old gold lacquer repairs. H.26cm; ?9;7cm. Condition B/C. Supplement: Matching wooden box (kiribako) with inscription.
