Tuscany; village of Sovana; Museo di San Mamiliano (Museum of Saint Mamilian): gold coins treasure of Saint Mamilian; also called "treasure of Montecristo" (coins: 5th century AD; but replica); The former church of Saint Mamilian (chiesa di San Mamiliano) was made a museum; in 2012. From 2004 onwards; excavations took place in the ruined church. Archeologists found a real treasure of 498 Roman gold coins (solidi) of 5th century AD. This treasure was attributed to Saint Mamilian and his legendary treasure on the Tuscan island of Montecristo. In the newly established museum; 83 of these 498 gold coins were exhibited; until November 2019. A robbery happened; 65 of the 83 gold coins were stolen. Now; the gold coins presented are replica but give still an impression of the treasure of Montecristo; hunted for centuries.
