7152642 The King\'s Champion at Henry V\'s Coronation, 1413 (litho) by English School, (20th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: The King\'s Champion at Henry V\'s Coronation, 1413. Henry V was proclaimed king on 21 March 1413, and was crowned at Westminster on the following 9 April, the Sunday before Easter. Our illustration shows the King\'s Champion who used to ride into the hall while the coronation banquet was in progress, and challenge to mortal combat anyone who questioned the King\'s right to the throne. The gauntlet was then thrown down, the trumpets sounded, and the King drank the health of the Champion from a cup of gold. This was then passed to the Champion, who, after drinking to the King retained as his perquisites the cup, the horse and the armour. Illustration for one a set of cards on Historical London, issued by Hignett\'s Cigarettes in 1926.); 穢 Look and Learn.
