Municipality of Gerswalde: Gerswalde Castle; built 1724 as manor house; extended 1832 to a castle; The castle; owned by noble von Arnim family; went into possession of the German Anthroposophical Society; in 1929. Franz L鰂fler (1895 - 1956) established a healing and pedagogic institute for 60 people; including several jews. During time of Holocaust; he hided these and saved them. In 1950; the castle became a stately childrens` home of GDR. In 1994; it became again a non profit institue with childrens`home to support children and young people.
