Graph showing gamma-rays emitted, in millions of gamma-rays per second, from gamma-ray burst (GRB) 221009A compared to other observed GRBs. Fermi data showed that this burst was 70 times brighter than any previously seen bursts and are therefore referring to it as the brightest of all time (BOAT). GRB 221009A was observed on the 9th October 2022 and was located in the direction of the Sagitta constellation, approximately 2 billion light-years from Earth. GRBs are high energy explosions that occur during the collapse of a massive star.
