Far North's Most Modern Airport Opened -- The far north's most modern airport, the new ?4,000,000 international airport at Anchorage, Alaska, was formally dedicated in a programme this month. The dedication also observed the golden anniversary of powered flight. An hour-long demonstration of military air power was staged by aircraft from nearby elmendorf air force base in a special programme arranged by the Alaskan air command. Highlighting the exhibition of military air power was this F-94B making a jet-assisted take-off. October 30, 1953. (Photo by Paul Popper).
