Light micrograph of a hyperplastic colon polyp, a benign (non-cancerous) type of polyp that occurs in the human colon. The polyp shows surface serrations (frilly top) and branched star-like cross-sections in the colon epithelium cut in cross-sections (mid portion of image). A hyperplastic polyp does not itself confer a heightened cancer risk, but is often removed during screening colonoscopy procedures. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: x100 when printed at 10cm wide.
