Common bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) flowers. Bluebells are native to western Europe with the UK being a species stronghold. Almost half the world's bluebells are found in the UK. They are associated with ancient woodland and mllions of bulbs can exist in just one wood, giving rise to violet-blue 'carpets'.
