Adult humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) fluking (lifting its tail) as it dives in front of a cruise ship. Humpbacks usually range from 12 to 16 metres in length and weigh around 36 tonnes. They are known for breaching the surface and other distinctive surface behaviours, making them popular with whale watchers. Humpbacks are also known for their elaborate songs that can last from 5 to 35 minutes. Photographed in Wilhelmina Bay, Antarctica.
