Herd of European bison (Bos bonasu). European bison, also known as wisant, were once a widespread species in Europe but were hunted to extinction in the wild by 1919. Stock have been reintroduced from the descendants of 50 captive animals. This herd was relocated to a 50 hectare enclosure in the Jura mountains in November 2022 to assess if the animal will be able to live in the environment in the wild. Photographed at Naturpark Thal, Solothurn, Switzerland.
