Theresa Cabarrus Tallien (1773-1835); princess of Caraman Chimay; French political figure; of Spanish parentage. The divorced wife of a marquis de Fontenay; she became intimate with the revolutionary Jean Lambert Tallien; whom she married (1794) and whose policies she influenced strongly. She was nicknamed Notre Dame de Thermidor in allusion to her husband's part in the coup of 9 Thermidor (1794). Her salon was famous; and she originated the neo-Greek feminine styles of the Directoire period. Having divorced Tallien in 1802; she married the banker Caraman; who was later created prince de Chimay; engraving after Jean-Baptiste Isabey
