The Paris Fashions for August, 1860. 1. Walking Dress...silk dress trimmed with lace...the mantelet-pelisse is cut square in front, and is composed of two rows of Chantilly lace. The bonnet may either be of straw or crape...surmounted by a small bouquet of flowers. The tour-de-tete consists of tufts of small flowers intermingled with black velvet bows. 2. Visiting Dress. Robe of grenadine gauze, with seven narrow flounces, the upper one surmounted by a frilling corresponding with the trimming on the sleeves, which are wide, and furnished with three rows of frills...The dress is round-waisted, and attached with a Moldavian band and buckle. The bonnet is of rice-chip, trimmed with a wide blonde forming a flat bow...The cap is made up of blonde, two small bouquets of roses, and foreign green grapes. 3. Seaside Costume. Plain silk robe...Casaque of black silk, with gimp pelerine...[with] three black velvet roses and buttons down the front...There is a row of buttons down the front of the skirt of the casaque, of which the sleeves are ample, and open at the ends, with the facility of buttoning them if desired.
