Part of a mozaic floor bordered with vegetal and mythological motifs. At the centre is a tondo, a circular work of art, showing and inscription and symbol of Apollo (Apollon) in the centre, and an outer ring depicting the nine muses and their mother Mnemosyne. Their names are individually inscribed divided by radii of black tesserae on an off-white ground. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, the Muses were the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts. They were considered the source of the knowledge embodied in the poetry, lyric songs, and myths that were related orally for centuries in ancient Greek culture. Mid 3rd C. AD. From a villa with internal peristyle, located close to the Agora of Ancient Elis, Greece.
