Homo heidelbergensis model. Reconstruction of a specimen of Homo heidelbergensis from the Broken Hill (Kabwe) site in Northern Rhodesia (present-day Zambia). The finds were originally classified as Homo rhodesiensis (Rhodesian Man). The original Kabwe 1 specimen was discovered in 1921. The first early human fossil found in Africa, it is thought to be between 125,000 and 300,000 years old. H. heidelbergensis is an extinct hominin species from the same genus as modern humans. Reconstruction by Elisabeth Daynes of the Daynes Studio, Paris, France. MANDATORY CREDIT.
