The Great Schools of England - Charterhouse from the Green, 1862. Charterhouse, a public school, was founded by Thomas Sutton in London in 1611 on the site of a Carthusian monastery. It was moved to its present site in Godalming, Surrey, in 1872. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
