The Prince of Wales Visit to the East: arrival of His Royal Highness at Beyrout, 1862. The future King Edward VII in the Middle East. Engraving from a sketch by M. Beauc?, ...representing the arrival of his Royal Highness at Beyrout at five oclock on the evening of the 5th of May last...a considerable number of people were assembled and welcomed the future King of England with an ardour altogether in keeping with the broiling state of the atmosphere at this season of the year - pure, cloudless, but almost insupportably hot. The Princes reception on the Place des Cannons is depicted by M. Beauc? with that fidelity for which he is so remarkable. The English, French, and Turkish vessels in the harbour fired a salute in honour of his Royal Highness, who, after gracefully acknowledging the cordial demonstration of the population of Beyrout, proceeded to the residence of the British Consul, where he took up his quarters...Such a scene of excitement as prevailed during the Princes sojourn had not been witnessed at Beyrout since the memorable occasion of the arrival of the French expedition sent out to the relief of the persecuted Christians....
