Paris fashions for August, 1862. Fig. 1. Bridal Dress. Crape robe over taffety, the skirt ornamented with a silk ruching formed into festoons fastened by large rosettes and edged with wide lace...round sleeves, wide at the wrist, and ornamented with ribbon and lace trimmings. The headdress consists of a garland composed of orange-flowers and apple-blossom. Fig. 2. Promenade Dress. Light fawn-coloured plain silk dress...the extra (lower) flounce on the skirt and sleeves is also in silk, but of a light green colour, forming a very strange but not displeasing contrast for a carriage dress...The leghorn bonnet, with a simple rose ornament in the tour-de-tete, is almost entirely covered by a small Chantilly black lace veil, which should only descend as far as the eyes. Fig. 3. Walking Dress. Robe and burnous of the same material, either plain foulard or light slate-coloured alpaca...the collar is provided with a very short pelerine, pointed in front and behind, and trimmed to correspond with the lower parts of the skirt and burnous. Rice-chip bonnet, with drooping feather falling along the left-hand edge of the chapeau; lace tour-de-tete, ornamented with two large roses. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
