Illustration of the fall and discovery of meteorite fragments in 1628 near the village of Hatford, in Berkshire, England. Observations reported included flashes in the sky and what is now thought to be a double sonic boom. The meteorite fall took place at around 5 in the afternoon on 9th April 1628. Contemporary reports included sounds of a battle, including cannon and drums (shown at top). A crowd of locals is at left. Two men (lower right) began to recover the brownish stones, though the younger one was said to have felt faint because of the stress. Other fragments included one found near Bawlkin Green by a Mistress Greene.
