Sleigh Ride, c1890-95. Tracks in the snow, painted with subtle touches of blue and pink, lead our eyes to a sleigh about to disappear over the ridge of a hill. The occupants of the sleigh, one outlined in yellow moonlight, the other wearing a red scarf, seem almost incidental in the quiet grandeur of the landscape. This small, unsigned canvas remained in Homer¡¦s studio until his death and was perhaps never intended to be exhibited in public.
