Illustration of the French physicist Serge Haroche (born 1944). Haroche specialises in laser and quantum physics. Since 2001, he has been a professor at the College de France, where he holds the Chair of Quantum Physics. His research includes work in the 1990s on quantum decoherence. He has also worked on laser spectroscopy, Rydberg atoms, and quantum logic. He shared the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics with David Wineland for their work on the measurement and manipulation of quantum systems.
