Household products with chemical warning labels. The Globally Harmonized System of Chemical Classification was created by the United Nations in 1992. It is the basis for a universal system but it allows for modifications for local circumstances. The hazard labels on chemicals is very widely accepted. The household chemicals are, left to right: Sink and drain un-blocker containing sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite. It has a Corrosive to metal and skin label and a Hazardous to the aquatic environment label. Fabric stain remover containing sodium carbonate, disodium carbonate, sodium hydrogencarbonate and silicic acid. It has a Corrosive to metal and skin label. Methylated spirit containing ethanol. It has a ;Flammable liquids label. Notice that the centre container is French but has the same hazard label as the UK product on the left.
