Scratch marks (excoriations) on the back of a male patient with jaundice. Jaundice is a condition in which the skin and eyes are discoloured due to the deposition of excess bilirubin (pigment) in skin tissues. Jaundice is not a disease in itself, but is a symptom of many disorders of the liver and biliary system. Itchy skin (pruritus) can be a symptom of liver disease.
