Scientists in the control room of the Large Heavy Ion National Accelerator (Grand Accelerateur National dIons Lourds). Herve Savajols (left) is the scientific coordinator and Allal Djillali (right) is a physicist. The entire accelerator, including its source, cyclotrons, and beam guidance and redirection elements, is controlled from this large control room. A team of 5 to 10 people is responsible for adjusting all 2000 beam parameters and monitoring all rooms and elements of the accelerator, with a particular focus on radioprotection and safety during its operation.
