At Pickering, Yorkshire, a Traction Engine Derby was held, charging spectators two shillings a head to help pay off the mortgage on the bowling green. But the race was not held on the bowling green; it was held in one of the most roughest ground with E. Wardell and Ernest Mortimer bringing home "Old Glory" first at the winning post.
