The Great Propellers Turn For The First Time - Shipyard engineer on the bridge of the United States Lines new 990 foot superliner United States, stands ready at the engine room telegraph to give the signal that will start the great engines turning the propellers for the first time as the vessel undergoes her dock trials - the first breath of life - at the Newport News, Va. Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company where she is rapidly nearing completion. The United States is scheduled to leave New York July 3 on her maiden voyago to Havre and Southampton in the United States Lines transatlantic service. July 16, 1952.
