Guilin, China 1981; A historic view of Guilin in 1981, with the River Li snaking through the town. Its famous Karst limestone hills, oft depicted in classical Chinese painting, are much in evidence in this image from the top of Folded Brocade Hill. I was living in Hong Kong at the time, and took the opportunity to join one of the very first tourist trips to the country after it re-opened to the outside world. It was full of professional photographers. Eventually, I became one myself.
