Crab spider Misumena vatia attacking a hoverfly family Syrphidae. The hoverfly approaches the flower to feed, where it is grabbed and killed by the spider磗 venomous bite. Crab spiders are ambush predators that feed on insects visiting flowers to feed. Although this spider looks white in daylight to our eyes, hoverflies and many other pollinating insects can see into the ultraviolet part of the spectrum, and at these wavelengths the spider is invisible against the flower background. Crab spiders can change colour over a few days to match different flowers. Filmed in the UK.
