Cytoplasmic streaming. Real_time differential interference contrast microscopy footage of cytoplasmic streaming in plant cells. These are onion bulb scale epidermis cells. Three complete cells and their nuclei and cell walls are seen here, surrounded by partial views of other cells. The cytoplasmic streaming is seen in the cell at bottom, moving from right to left. Cytoplasmic streaming, or cyclosis, is the mechanism by which general transport and solute movement takes place within cells. This two_way process is aided by the actin protein microfilaments of the cell磗 cytoskeleton.
