Timelapse of the Milky Way setting over the Pacific Ocean, from Cerro Paranal Observatory, Atacama Desert, Chile. At bottom centre left at the beginning Mercury and Venus are in conjunction. Above them the Zodiacal Light (triangle of white light) appears, fading in to the bright Milky Way in the constellations Scorpio and Sagittarius, which mark the central region of the galaxy. The two bright stars of Alpha and Beta Centauri are then seen at bottom left. Near the end green and red airglow are seen over the horizon. This atmospheric phenomenon is the natural glow of the Earth's upper atmosphere, made by the molecules excited by the solar radiation and particles.
