Puccinia graminis; teliosorus on primary host leaf stem, (such as wheat, ye, barley, oats, red top). Puccinia graminis is the cause of the hugely important cereal rusts. Other species and genera cause rusts and smuts on a wide range of crop plants. Many rusts have complicated life cycles on alternate hosts, with as many as five different spore types.
